When PDT started our Lean journey, improvement ideas were hidden, not addressed in a timely manner and took an average of 181 days from approval to completion. The process lacked visual management, partly because ideas were logged into an excel file saved beneath folders. In addition, proposed ideas weren’t SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time Based) which typically resulted in, what I call, “solving world hunger problems”. Within the last few months, the process has been enhanced through implementation of a CI Board (see image below). This initiative has improved the process time by 141 days (average of 40 days to close out a project) and increased employee engagement in continuous improvement efforts. A great system that can be implemented across various companies.
