Job Title: Mechanical Designer

 

SUMMARY:

 

 Designs and executes layouts of complex products and systems of an electrical, mechanical, and

 

electromechanical nature.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following:

 

  • Conceptualizes the design of a product according to customer and engineering specifications. Performs tolerance stackup of the design to ensure parts compatibility and total design accuracy.
  • Serves as designer on systems as required. Responsible for all aspects of design project, including design, drafting, and associated product documentation.
  • Troubleshoots and solves design problems for project personnel, including design of test tooling.
  • Acts as the design liaison between suppliers, procurement, assembly and test.
  • Creates layouts, envelope, assembly, sub-assembly, and detailed drawings.
  • Creates bills of material.
  • Directs or creates proposal drawings from Engineering and Marketing inputs.
  • Responsible for maintaining consistency in regards to PDT systems, procedures, and drafting

 

 POSITION CRITERIA:

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • Associate (A.S.) degree in design/drafting; and/or minimum of 10 years design/drafting experience, recommended.
  • Ten years design experience-using SolidWorks modeling software or equivalent.

Job Title: Senior Engineer, Mechanical and Thermal Systems

 SUMMARY:

 

 Knowledge of thermal management systems applicable to military and commercial aircraft including mechanical and electromechanical products with expertise in Vapor Cycle Systems (VCS) and Passive/Active Environmental Cooling Systems (ECS). Directs and coordinates activities involved in design, analysis, fabrication, operation, application, and testing of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems by performing the following duties.

 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following:

 

  • Review customer design requirements, military and commercial specifications, documentation, and other data to evaluate design feasibility, sizing, and integration requirements.
  • Generate subsystem specifications and documentation for use by internal and external design resources.
  • Provide technical leadership to the development of new products and systems
  • Develop analytical system models and schematics and simulate/validate performance at specified load cases.
  • Perform data reduction from testing to validate heat balance models and data accuracy
  • Prepare presentation materials and conduct design reviews with customers.
  • Establish preliminary design, analysis and performance of mechanical products, equipment (VCS/ECS), and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Conduct studies and prepare documentation that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems.
  • Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system deficiencies, and provide technical direction.
  • Design test apparatus and equipment and develop procedures for testing products and systems.
  • Coordinate activities between internal departments, vendors and/or customers to achieve technical and program objectives.
  • Manage project/program activities to achieve cost and schedule objectives.
  • Assist program manager in preparation of program status reports, schedules and other data items.
  • Prepare and revise, as necessary, technical data items such as test procedures, reports, analysis reports, etc.
  • Perform technical analysis to include stress, performance, CFD, and thermal analysis.

 

POSITION CRITERIA:

 

 Education and Experience:

 

    • Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in mechanical or systems engineering or related discipline from four-year college or university.
    • 5-10 years experience in aerospace systems development. An emphasis on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer, or HVAC-specific training is desired.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

  • Full knowledge in the design and installation of Thermal Mangement Systems such as VCS (Vapor Cycle Systems), Air Cycle Systems, ECS (Environmental Cooling Systems-Passive/Active) and LCS (Liquid Cooling Systems)
  • Full knowledge of selection, design and analysis of major mechanical and electrical components.
  • Knowledge of engineering subjects and ability to apply conceps such as requirements analysis, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.
  • Exposure to requirements management systems (e.g. DOORS or equivalent)
  • Fundamental knowledge of heat transfer systems (VCS/ECS), pumps and liquid cooling systems, components design/sizing and testing thereof.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamplay/leadership skills
  • Knowledge of Aerospace and Military document stanadards for design, analysis and testing of aircraft thermal management systems.
  • Knowledge of standard drafting procedures, including ability to interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of machine shop manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of materials and processes and their relationship to design practices.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks design software desired but not required.

 SUMMARY:

 

Under general direction of the Procurement supervisor, performs a variety of procurement functions involved in the acquisition of materials and services through partnering with Suppliers using LEAN Principles.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following:  (Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned to meet business needs.)

 

  • Prepares purchase orders using the PDT computerized system, and places orders for the purchase of parts and materials, goods and services.
  • Analyzes the requirements of commodities including specification requirements, preferred suppliers and dates commodities are needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate parts status to all team members
  • Ability to negotiate and administer purchase orders in support of production needs.
  • Work with Suppliers in order to develop a working partnership to achieve JIT deliveries and improved Quality.
  • Assures that purchase contracts comply with PDT, government and customer requirements.
  • Works closely with Engineering on changes to drawings and specifications, and follows up with suppliers to revise and amend purchase orders.
  • Communicates with suppliers to expedite and resolve problems and to obtain required material certifications, test reports and product specifications.
  • Maintains electronic records and prepares reports of order status and expected delivery dates.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, and provides order status updates.
  • Following LEAN Principles to continually improve operations in a Team environment to streamline processes, and work cooperatively and jointly with the Supply Chain to ensure JIT.

  • An AA degree in business administration or related field is preferred or a combination of education, training and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.

Job Title: Applications Engineer

 

The successful Engineer candidate will be a Mechanical Engineer. And should be familiar with aerospace/military standards and have a working experience with 3D modeling software, such as Solidworks. A working familiarity with fluid handling equipment, rotating machinery, thermal management/HVAC equipment, pneumatics and/or hydraulics is desired. The Engineer  should also process strong communication skills, both written and oral for interacting with vendors, customers, and internal PDT personnel. The Engineer  must be able to work effectively in a team environment with other PDT engineers and program managers, have advanced problem-solving abilities and work independently with minimal supervision.

 

SUMMARY:

The senior application engineer will be responsible for providing expert level technical support for the Business Development Department within PDT. The successful candidate will be in charge of the initial design and proposal activities for all PDT product lines which are selected to meet a program’s needs. The Engineer will review material specifications, statement of works, compliance / testing matrices and select products that meet customer needs and budgets. The Engineer will compose and make detailed presentations to customers and their management team to condition them towards the purchase and use of PDT technology over the competition.

The senior application engineer will also provide expert training to employees in his organization and to clients when needed. He will coordinate and sometimes lead innovation projects for better product reliability develop business relations with outside vendors for equipment selection activities and work to generate the most cost effective solution for both PDT and its customer. The senior applications engineer will participate in both workload issues and pricing strategies.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following:

  1. Assist Regional Sales Managers in developing PDT technical solutions for customer inquiries.
  2. Assist both the Manager of Advanced Product Design and RSMs in lead qualification, account strategy, proposal preparation and subsequent proposal follow up with the customer.
  3. Act as a technical liaison between PDT Engineering and the customer during the pre-proposal, proposal and contract hand-off phases.
  4. Assist the RSMs and the BD Director in developing strategies to increase sales revenue, to include formation and execution of specific IRAD programs.
  5. Participate in the weekly BD status call with the RSMs and in the semiannual bookings forecast reviews.
  6. Travel with RSMs to customer sites for sales and program meetings.
